Ministries of Star Island

Star Island Ministries

Eight councilors will make up the government of Star Island. Ministries seen here were derived from the current (real) ministries in the Government of Canada. The following ministries will be overseen by council:

Chair of Council (Equivalent to Prime Minister) – Each council member serves as the head of council on a 45 day rotational basis.
Minister of Foreign Affairs – As each member of council would get 1/8th of their term to serve as the effective head of state, this ministry is not needed.

1. Minister of Agriculture & Environment – This ministry is definitely needed, as someone must oversee the production of all food in Star Island to ensure that it is done within our standards of quality and respect for the environment in a closed-loop system. The ministry of fisheries would fall under the agriculture portfolio, and is not needed.

2. Minister of Citizenship and Immigration – This ministry is definitely needed to control influx and out-migration. Star Island is only so big, and so we cannot grow much beyond a population of 320,000.

3. Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Development – This ministry is definitely needed to ensure that those seeking employment have the opportunity to do so, and that those with employment have fair work standards and a healthy work environment that is in the best condition it can be. Industry, trade and international development can be handled by foreign affairs and employment.

4. Minister of Finance – This ministry is definitely needed.

5. Minister of Health – This ministry is definitely needed.

6. Minister of Education – This ministry is definitely needed.

7. Minister of Justice, Public Safety and National Defence - This ministry is definitely needed. Star Island would have no standing military, but instead would rely on protection from Canada in the event of an armed attack. The chief of police would work closely with the minister for these portfolios, and would report to the council when matters needed to be discussed.

8. Minister of Tourism and Sport – This ministry is needed in order to encourage people to visit and spend money in Star Island.

Extraneous/Unneccesary ministries:
--
Minister of Aboriginal Affairs – In the event that this is an area that citizens wish government to be interested in, one of the 8 councillors will take on this role; however, it is not immediately necessary.
Northern Development – Star Island is small, and entirely in the north. This ministry is not needed.

Minister of Heritage and Official Languages – This ministry is not needed in Star Island. Once the country has some history behind it, an organization may be set up to document it, but there does not need to be a ministry for this in Star Island.

Minister of Public Works – As all council and all citizens are invited to participate in the development of public works projects, I don't believe that this ministry is needed.

Minister of Transport – The responsibilities of this ministry can be handled by council as a whole. This ministry is not needed.

Minister of Veterans Affairs – Not needed. Star Island has no military.
